What is Pilates?

Pilates and is a form of body conditioning that emphasizes muscular balance, strength, and flexibility. It is a series of controlled movements that engage your mind and body in developing strong, flexible muscles, without building bulk. Emphasis is placed on developing deep torso strength and flexibility to ensure proper posture and reduce the risk of injury. This method of conditioning places emphasis on correct posture and technique rather than high numbers of repetitions.

Dancers, Hollywood stars, and the rehabilitation industry have used this form of conditioning for years. One of the safest and most effective exercise programs available, this method comprises hundreds of exercises, which allow workouts to be customized to meet individual needs. The smooth motions and emphasis on proper breathing leave you feeling refreshed rather than exhausted.

. This technique:

  • tones and lengthens muscles
  • increases abdominal and back strength
  • improves posture and body mechanics
  • increases the range of motion of joints
  • reduces joint and lower back pain
  • balances flexibility with strength
  • reduces stress and tension
